Just Go to Sleep Already!

No, this post is not about my children, its about my computer.
Anybody out there that is computer savvy know why my computer refuses to go on standby or hibernate? I have windows XP and I go to "power options" on the control panel and pick the "energy star" option. It is supposed to go on standby after 20 minutes and hibernate after 1 hour. "Enable Hibernation" is clicked and I have enough disk space. Even when I go to the start button, click "turn of computer" and click "standby" it does not work. It goes to standby for about 1 second before it just comes back on again. I hate listening to it running all day and I hate knowing I'm wasting all that power. Any ideas?

Mine does the exact same thing and Bob says it is a very common problem with a lot of computers. He has tried to fix mine and a lot of other peoples but it never seems to stick. he says the only way really is to reinstall your operating system and then load everything back on again. So good luck to you. He did say the best way to fix it is to buy an Apple.

Haha!Derek had to buy a new computer for school and he got an apple. Probably when my computer is ready to be replaced we might do that. Its good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem though. We actually reinstalled our operating system about a month ago. Kind of a pain but the computer seems to be running MUCH better. It still wouldn't hibernate though. I googled it and read about it for a bit and it says that some programs interfere with the power options. I'm suspicious of AVG. But I just don't know. Sigh.
