Does anyone remember This Post I did about how awful my hair has been since we moved into this house? To update you, I ended up cutting about eight inches off because I just could not handle the tangles. Since then, a great friend of mine sent me this link. (Thanks Alicia)

You should read it if you love your hair. It says to use vinegar in your hair if you have really hard water. I don't do this all the time because I forget and I haven't put some in my shower, but I have done it several times recently. When I use vinegar in my hair it makes a HUGE difference. My hair is so soft and smooth on those days. If you have hard water you should just try it. A little experiment for you. Try it and then comment and let us know if it worked for you.
I also ran across some stuff about people who don't use shampoo. Its the no-poo movement. Check it out Here. Has anyone out there actually done this? I'd love to hear about it. I'm a little scared to go that extreme.
Also something else I was wondering. Lets suppose you do use shampoo. I know you aren't supposed to wash your hair every day, but how often do actual people wash their hair? I have a hard time not washing my hair because of two things. I often have curly hair and so I have a bunch of gel in it. It is not pretty the next morning. I promise. Also, when I work out I get sweaty head. Yup, its just who I am.
Ok, I think I need to summarize what I am asking here.
Number 1-If you try or have tried using vinegar, I want to know how it went for you.
Number 2-Does anyone have experience with the no-poo thing and how did it go? (or is it going?)
Number 3-How often do you wash your hair and do you think I am right to wash mine all the time because of the aforementioned reasons?

1 - I have never tried the vinegar thing but I'll try it tomorrow when I wash my hair. I love the idea!
2 - I cannot go "no-poo" because I have to use medicated shampoo for the psoriasis on my scalp.
3 - I wash my hair every 4 days. When I do my hair curly, I was it every day. There's just no way to make it look good otherwise. But, you don't always have to use shampoo. Sometimes just getting it wet in the shower and then using a little leave in conditioner works (and it won't dry out your hair).
CURLY HAIRED PEOPLE: okay don't take my word for it, ask any skilled hair dresser out there. If you have curly hair do not wash your hair everyday it makes it frizzier. Our hair doesn't produce the natural oils as easily because the shape of our follicles. That doesn't mean however to not wet it down. Getting it wet isn't the same a washing it. The soap is what is stripping the natural oils. Curly haired women have special hair that doesn't get dirty very easily... Even with product in it it still needs the natural oils that we are washing out when we wash everyday. Again I am not saying to not get it wet it in the shower every morning if you are going to go curly. So this is what I do..
Curly hair, I wet everyday and wash every every two days.
Straightened hair, I go 3 days with out washing it sometimes 4.
A couple more tips for naturally curly women:
The no-poo idea also suggests for s naturally curly haired women to use conditioner as their shampoo and says that it cleanses the hair well. The sulfates in shampoo are what strips our hair of the natural oils we need.
This one I don't do because I have a thing about the environment: Instead of using a towel to dry your hair, use a paper towel or a microfiber towel and a t-shirt works just as well.
Also make sure to get a Gel without alcohol in it. It's better for your hair.
If I don't wash my hair with shampoo everyday I see a huge change in my hair. I don't always follow this rules but I know they work because I have used them and seen drastic changes. The biggest reason I don't use them is because sometimes I develop dry scalp and shampooing it takes care of that the best but also making sure that none of my products have alcohol in them helps cure my dry scalp as well.
I am a wash my hair everyday NO MATTER WHAT kinda girl. I have extremely fine hair so it get oily really fast. I can't stand the way my hair is when it is not washed. The most important part for me though is the conditioner, I CANNOT get a comb through my hair without conditioner because it is so fine it tangles VERY easily. I could never go without shampoo, I need to get a bunch for my food storage, thanks for making me think of that!
I have to wash my hair everyday because of the oily factor AND becasue of sweaty head.
I actually swap out shampoos. I use two and using A for two/three days and using B for the other. I also will skip the conditioner two days a week.
I have used vinegar before, but I used it rarely because I was worried it would dry my hair out.
That is all I got! Not much, but hey thought I would add my two cents!
I know I already left a comment, but I just thought I would add that I tried the vinegar thing and it was great! It didn't feel as silky in the shower as I was used to, but when I got out and dried and straightened my hair, it felt great! I might just stop using conditioner forever!
I will say, however, that my husband was not a fan. We showered together and he couldn't hold his breath long enough for the smell of the vinegar to fade. My tip: shower alone.
Does your hair smell like vinegar after it's dry? That would be my only hang up, but I'm game to try almost anything. :) Although, I don't think I could go no-poo.
And, as for washing my hair, I wash it every other day. It's super thick and mostly straight and I can definately tell if I go too long. Usually by the end of the second day it looks greasy and gross-I just have an oily head I guess.
Also, I've heard your hair gets used to shampoo so you should change out your shampoo. I actually use a different kind with each new bottle I have to buy. Eventually I end up starting all over again, but by then it's new to my hair and it actually makes a difference.
Also, sorry, lots of also's-I asked a stylist one time how to get smooth shiney "pantene commercial" hair and she said either leave the conditioner in longer or get hot oil treatments. So, there you have it!
I have naturally curly hair, but usually it's just frizzy. So I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it. I wash it twice a week and run a wide tooth comb through it wet or brush it when it's dry. The first day after washing it looks best, so now I'm thinking I should wet it every day to keep the frizz down.
I tried using baking soda and vinegar instead of shampoo for a few months. It was a hassle remembering to mix it before a shower. I didn't really notice a lot of difference besides it is weird to not have the smooth soapy feeling under my hands when washing my hair. My hair still felt as clean. The vinegar smell goes away when the hair dries. Also, my hair retained more of it's natural oils, so I felt like I should wash more frequently. But-- it took a while, but my hair began to hold its curl, which never happens when I use shampoo. It wasn't frizzy throughout, only on top where I was probably overworking it anyway.
I went back to regular shampoo/conditioner because I am lazy and don't like mixing up the baking soda and vinegar with water. Right away my hair changed. It's really frizzy again. I hate it. I'm going to go back to baking soda and vinegar, even though it is more work.
This is a great page for more detailed information on going without shampoo. http://babyslime.livejournal.com/174054.html
I have very soft water, so I haven't tried vinegar.
Also, I have thin, very curly hair. I have to wash it every day. Sometimes I skip a day, but on those days I MUST wear it "up" and not touch it AT ALL or it looks greasy and disgusting.
For anybody considering no-poo-- I went back to using baking soda and vinegar. It took a couple weeks for the natural oils to regain balance in my hair. It's not frizzy anymore and shows natural curl again. I'm not going back to shampoo, it was awful on my hair. However, I did make a change to the baking soda/ vinegar regime. I'm now using baking soda and lemon juice instead. My husband hated the smell of the vinegar, and lemon juice works well in its place.
